Breakfast

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and at times, a tasteless coffee or a burned toast can ruin our mood for the whole day. On the other hand, if we do enjoy a proper breakfast, we charge our body and brain with so much energy that we are able to resist what the world has in store for us on that given day. It may sound as a corny catchphrase from commercials, but just recall the last time a crispy croissant or breakfast made with love lifted your spirit. That’s why we’ve decided to take a peek into your kitchens and out of pure curiosity, explore your breakfast habits. Looking at the first few images, it was obvious that most of you prefer your breakfasts salty rather than sweet. If you’re enjoying your breakfast at this very moment, bon appétit and for those that have already finished their breakfasts for the day, let us take you on a short culinary adventure.

The world of the magic box

When the Week of Life was in its infant phase, we, in the editor’s office, noticed a photographic phenomenon lurking amongst the photos of the authors from around the world. It was more of a sociological phenomenon, perhaps pointing out the future investigative and scientific character of the whole project. What are we talking about? With a few exceptions, everyone who submitted one or two sets into the project, he or she included a photo lying down in front of the strong ‘magnetic box’ called TELEVISION, with own feet usually belonging to the resulting image. Resting, relaxing or just laying on the sofa watching TV has become a worldwide phenomenon. We can see here how powerful the grasp of this medium is and how we’ve become its loyal brothers and sisters. From the photos themselves, we can even easily sense the intensity that goes on during this kind of ‘action’. At times, it is electrifying as telephone wires. Other times, it can be as chilly as the spring frost. At this point, we are not here to judge, assess or evaluate; that belongs to the Author’s column section, soon to expand by another scholarly perspective. As for our concluding remark, hardly any other activity is as resembling across the continents as hanging around the TV is. Welcome to the world of the Magic box.

Ride

Right from the beginning of Week of Life, we see that almost every other set that appears on WoL has one thing in common and that is a photo from a car. Maybe it tells more about our life than we are willing to admit. In a recent poll of an English social magazine, a car was selected as the greatest invention of all time. It even did beat phenomena like electricity, TV or telephone. We can’t imagine our life without cars and since the moment it was invented, our life is a journey even more than ever before in our history. Since that moment, a philosophical term Journey got another meaning. That is why we present you fifty most interesting views from all around the world, where you spend a small part of your life in a toy called car and you are on the Journey.

ISM – I Shot Myself

What could be more inviting to make self-portraits than the very task of our Week of Life documentary. As you all certainly know, the project guidelines state that as the author you should always have the camera in your hand or at least set it yourself and shoot using the self-timer. This is why we eagerly looked forward to the choice of this topic, as we anticipated that the creativity would be endless. On the other hand we had to devote quite a lot of effort into it, especially because there really was a huge pile of photographs, and it was not at all easy to sort them and select the final 50, which we bring you here today. They are definitely not short on imagination and creativity, which is why comparing the different styles is quite entertaining. If you find that you don’t see photographs from rear and side automobile mirrors, be assured that in the near future these will be included in a separate topic category. So let’s look at how you see yourselves and how beautiful the self-portraits you’ve been able to create are.

New Year's Eve

The second edition of Photo Topics logically relates to the end of the holidays that come at the end of each year. New Year’s Eve and the coming of the New Year as such can have a different character for each and every one of us. Some like it full of joy, some like it larger than life, some like it quiet, and some perhaps don’t even have a chance to choose. Fortunately, we had the possibility to choose and we bring you a collection of photographs taken by the members of our WoL family who experienced this specific day in various different places and in various different ways.

Christmas

The section we would like to present to you today is one we have been looking forward to since the very beginning of Week of Life’s existence. Today’s Christmas edition is represented by only three countries but this fact doesn’t take away any of its glory. We all realize that we are just at the beginning and that with the growing number of Week of Life family members, we can expect amazing contributions to this section and that these contributions will become more and more interesting as the topics get wittier and perhaps even absurd at times. The sole purpose and message of this new section is of course comparison. Comparison of the way one person lives and experiences something, which another person in a place more or less distant may live and experience quite differently. Waiting for new topics, which you can suggest at contact@weekoflife.com, fills us with expectation and the well-known photographic excitement. We all brush our teeth in the morning, we all watch TV, we all have fun, drive cars or ride in buses, we cook, we laugh, we enjoy sports, we get bored. We simply live our lives yet each and every one of us does it slightly differently. And this SLIGHT DIFFERENCE is, and certainly also will be in the future, very entertaining to compare. Today, we have no choice but to look forward to next year, to see how many representatives of various cultures from countries of the entire world will contribute to the Christmas section. So enjoy it, compare your habits, customs, and everydayness.
