Dear Week of Life members,

Not only have we recently welcomed the 3000th week into the project, but together, we managed to reach another important milestone – the Week of Life project now has an unbelievable database of 200 000 photographs.

Once again we have decided to search for the lucky photograph, which will forever be labeled with this magical number. This time it’s a photo filled with relaxing and easy atmosphere in not so relaxing times and the proud owner is our long-term and faithful member Stefania Spisakova.

Stefania Spisakova

Hereby we would like to congratulate Stefania all the way to the far away city of Kosice, Slovakia and wish her all the best not only for the year 2012!

As for the rest of you, thank you for your support, we wouldn’t have been able to do reach this wonderful number without you. We hope that we will all celebrate the next milestone together soon.

Number of photos on WoL: 100,000

Dear Week of Life members,
Not long ago we celebrated 50,000 photographs and now it is time to celebrate another significant milestone. We have reached the magical number of a 100,000 photographs. As curious as we are, we decided to search our system for the exact image that was uploaded as the 100,000th anniversary photo and when we finally found it, we were all stunned. Not only does the photograph look amazing at first sight, but it’s also as if fate played its role and forever inscribed the number combination of 1 and 0 into the picture. Yes, it was off by one zero, but nevertheless, it’s evident that it was meant to be.

So who is the lucky author that made all this possible thanks to his vision and the decision to take this image? It’s no other than Tomáš Šimek, who hasn’t been a member for long, but ever since he joined the cause of the project, he has been supplying us with quality weeks that perfectly document the story of his life.

Tomáš Šimek

Congratulations to Mr. Šimek with all our WoL heart!
And as the picture suggests itself, Week of Life keeps going and is here for you NONSTOP!
Have a nice start into the new week,

Your WoL team

František Ortmann: 1st place at Czech Press Photo 2010

Dear Week of Life members,

We would like to congratulate our long term member, František Ortmann, for winning 1st place in the ‘People in the news’ category at the 16th annual Czech Press Photo awards, a prestigious journalistic competition. He won the prize thanks to his candid photo, in which he captured Tomas Rolinek, captain of the Czech ice hockey team, standing at the very front of the bus destined for Old Town Square in Prague to greet the fans with the winning trophy from the World Championship. This prestigious award is something to be proud of, where success in this competition is a wishful dream for many photographers. Mr. Ortmann has achieved this several times during his career, deserving praise from us all.

This year, 299 photographers with permanent residence in the Czech Republic or Slovakia have entered the competition and the jury had 4236 photographs to choose from. More information about the Czech Press Photo competition can be found on the website www.czechpressphoto.cz/en.

František Ortmann, week number two
